Shinko Okuhara has created many artworks for advertisements, magazines, books, CD jackets, packages, etc. She likes to draw motifs such as landscapes with plants, people, and animals, and uses various expressive techniques such as painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. This exhibition will showcase Okuhara’s work as a new form of expression for him.
The faint trembling of branches swaying in the wind.
A cluster of plants spreading out before your eyes looking up at the sky.
The back of someone walking in the distance.
The “blank space of life” that quietly exists in the city and in nature drifts across the screen as if it were breathing.
The plants are simply there, quietly breathing, beyond time and emotion.
And the small lives that appear to intermingle for a moment only slightly establish the meaning of the place. It could be said that this is the moment when the landscape is given a name.
The landscape has a sign that “reminds” the viewer of something, as if it is speaking to him or her.
Even if there are no or few human figures depicted, there is certainly a “presence” in the landscape.
However, in the face of the overwhelming presence of nature, this presence seems to be subdued, quietly holding its breath.
Vivid colors and dreamlike compositions.
Her works are connected to our daily life, but at the same time, they are like a different world cut off from it.
